Sibylle Ohngemach has found that the release of dopamine from the retina can be estimated from its vitreal concentration. Furthermore, she has shown that the release of dopamine declines soon after the retinal image becomes worse. |

Because both retinal dopamine and the axial growth
of the eye (measured in the morning and in the evening by A-scan ultrasound)
show a pronounced diurnal rhythm, Sibylle Ohngemach studied the effect
of short periods of normal vision (which recovers dopamine release to normal)
on growth rhythms and myopia development.
Three hours of bad vision in the evening causes already changes in growth
rhythms (B). Three hours of normal vision in the evening can block myopia
(D).
